The discovery of a new massive O-type close binary: τ CMa (HD57061), based onHipparcos andWalraven photometry
نویسنده
چکیده
We present an interpretation of Hipparcos Hp and WalravenV BLUW photometry of the brightest star in the open clusterNGC 2362 (although not necessarily associatedwith this cluster), HD 57061 (30τ CMa, HR 2782, HIP 35415). In this multiple system the central component consist of a visual double star, two O-type stars separated by 0. ′′151, which is also known to be a 154. d9 period single lined spectroscopic binary. It is now shown that this system also contains a massive close binary with a period of 1. d282122, most probably as the main component of the spectroscopic binary. This system therefore contains both the longest period spectroscopic binary and the shortest period eclipsing binary known for O-type stars. The shape of the light curve is characteristic for heavily distorted double star components. An estimate has been made for various physical parameters of the system. The system seems to be typical for some binary interaction results obtained in N-body simulations for open clusters. Improved ephemeris are provided for two similar stars that were observed around the same time as HD 57061: HD 57060 and HD 167971.

متن کاملDetection of frequency spacings in the young O-type binary HD 46149 from CoRoT photometry ******
Aims. Using the CoRoT space based photometry of the O-type binary HD 46149, stellar atmospheric effects related to rotation can be separated from pulsations, because they leave distinct signatures in the light curve. This offers the possibility of characterising and exploiting any pulsations seismologically. Methods. Combining high-quality space based photometry, multi-wavelength photometry, sp...
متن کاملTransiting exoplanets from the CoRoT space mission ? VI. CoRoT-Exo-3b: The first secure inhabitant of the brown-dwarf desert
Context. The CoRoT space mission routinely provides high-precision photometric measurements of thousands of stars that have been continuously observed for months. Aims. The discovery and characterization of the first very massive transiting planetary companion with a short orbital period is reported. Methods. A series of 34 transits was detected in the CoRoT light curve of an F3V star, observed...
متن کاملDetection of intrinsic variability in the eclipsing massive main-sequence O+B binary HD 165246
We present the analysis of 29.77 d of K2 space photometry of the well-detached massive 4.6 d O+B binary HD 165246 (V = 7.6) obtained during Campaign 9b. This analysis reveals intrinsic variability in the residual light curve after subtraction of the binary model, in the frequency range [0, 10] d−1. This makes HD 165246 only the second O+B eclipsing binary with asteroseismic potential. While som...
متن کاملPre - main - sequence stars in the young open cluster NGC 1893 , ⋆ II . Evidence for triggered massive star formation
Received ABSTRACT Context. The open cluster NGC 1893, illuminating the H region IC 410, contains a moderately large population of O-type stars and is one of the youngest clusters observable in the optical range. It is suspected to harbour a large population of pre-main-sequence (PMS) stars. Aims. We have probed the stellar population of NGC 1893 in an attempt to determine its size and extent...
